It’s CSA Sign Up Season, and farms all over the greater seacoast have lots of different choices to offer you in Community Supported Agriculture Shares.

Touching Earth Farm is offering CSA Shares for 20 weeks of produce grown without the use of chemical or synthetic pesticides or herbicides available for pick up at the farm in Kittery, ME.

(Not sure what CSA is all about? Start here.)

Our second CSA Day at the Market is coming up on February 22nd at Wentworth Greenhouses, where over a dozen CSA farmers will be available to talk to you about their options. In anticipation, we asked the participating CSA farms to answer 4 questions. Up next, Touching Earth Farm from Kittery, Maine.

4 Questions (+ their answers) for Touching Earth Farm:

1.  What is the best thing about your CSA?

We have a great cut flower and herb garden that CSA members can harvest from weekly. A majority of our vegetables are heirlooms chosen for beauty and flavor.

2.  What new, exciting, or interesting thing are you offering in your CSA shares this year?

This year we’re offering cauliflower and fennel in addition to the other crops we grow. We’ll also be hosting a CSA mid-summer picnic in addition to our fall pot-luck and bonfire.

3.  Why is CSA important?

The CSA model allows for a community to develop around the farm. Many of our members enjoy spending time in the cutting garden getting to know each other. It’s always a pleasure to see the children of different families playing on the farm!

4.  Why do you farm?

We farm because we love providing a local source for fresh vegetables. We like that our efforts benefit the local community, and contribute to a local food culture. And of course, we love cooking with and eating what we grow!
