CSAs Open for the 2012 Season

The Seacoast is home to a vibrant community of farms offering shares in their yearly harvest. Also known as Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, this partnership between farmers and consumers provides farms with much needed cash at the beginning of the season, in exchange for a regular allotment of the harvest as the season continues.

Each CSA farm has its own pricing structure, disbursement schedule, and some have work requirements. Signups for CSA shares begin in early winter by directly contacting the farm. A current list of farms with available shares may be found online — this year’s list includes a few newcomers, with some offering incentives for early sign-up:

More information on choosing and joining a CSA is available at the Seacoast Eat Local website, under “Find Local Food“. We will also be featuring CSA Day at the Winter Farmers’ Market in February — plan to visit the Winter Farmers’ Market in Exeter on February 11th, and in Rollinsford on February 25th. It will be an opportunity to meet farmers offering CSA shares, and sign up with a farm of your choice!
