Take your mind off the chilly temperatures and start thinking about the upcoming growing season when Seacoast Eat Local brings CSA Days back to the Winter Farmers’ Markets in February. The first CSA Day Market will be at Wentworth Greenhouses in Rollinsford on February 14th. The second will be February 28th at Exeter High School. The Winter Farmers’ Markets run from 10am till 2pm. Mark your calendars and show your love for local food!

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a business model for farms that is shaped by the direct link between consumers and growers. A consumer can purchase ‘shares’ up front, which provides much needed early season capital for the farmer to plan and plant for expected markets. The ‘shares’ are then used for fresh food throughout the season. As more people see the value in buying food from local farms, CSA programs have continued to grow and evolve, giving customers lots of choices and an opportunity for everyone to find their perfect CSA match.

Navigating the world of CSA options doesn’t have to be intimidating. Seacoast Eat Local is bringing together farmers offering a wide variety of CSA shares from New Hampshire and Maine for CSA Days at the Market. Whether you are interested in a traditional boxed share, farm credit based share, local delivery or on-farm pick up, there will be a farm for you. There are spring and summer, fall, and year round CSA options with diverse offerings including meat or vegetable shares with choices for adding on dairy, herbs, seedlings, fruits, flowers, mushrooms, bread, and more! You can also choose a credit based share where your CSA can be used at farmers’ markets and the local farm store. Farmers will be on hand to answer questions, talk with customers, and sign up CSA members.
