Veronique’s Post: Getting into the Knitty Gritty

If you’re anything like me, the cold weather leads to days spent indoors awaiting warmer weather. This winter, I promised to a be a bit more productive while watching daytime TV, so I decided to “pick up” knitting. After briefly looking at video tutorials online, I confidently picked up my needles… and utterly failed.

It took me approximately thirty minutes to figure out how to cast-on, and after four days I managed to create an uneven potholder. Like any inspirational story, this did not deter me from giving up, and I kept knitting. I can now proudly say that I have “birthed” a beautiful scarf, that you’ll mostly likely see me wearing like a proud parent. Before I continue to ramble about how much I enjoy knitting, this anecdote has a point. Winter signals the appearance of an array of accessories such pom-pom hats, scarfs and mittens. Finding yourself without one of these accessories this winter could be pretty dire. Since discovering this new passion, I have preached the joy and ease of knitting your own hat, scarf, socks for this winter. So it was to my pleasant surprise to have found Riverslea Farm at our farmer’s market to feed my knitting addiction.

You can’t ignore Riverslea Farm when you visit our farmers market. Their booth holds a variety of colorful yarn and other wool products. Their yarn is sourced from their own farm and sheep in Epping, NH. Which means every ball of yarn you purchase is helping a local NH farm. With their array of products, you will surely be impressed with the quality, which can inspire anyone to start picking up knitting. I recommend you visiting Liz and Jeff Conrad at their booth during your next visit to the Exeter or Rollinsford Winter Farmers’ Market– whether you’ve never touched a pair of needles, or could knit a sweater in your sleep!
