Does your farmers’ market want to start a SNAP/EBT program? Funds are available for EBT/debit/credit wireless POS terminals — all farmers’ markets in Maine are eligible, deadline September 30th. From the Maine Federation of Farmers’ Markets (MFFM):
In place of the August newsletter, I am sending out this email as a call to action to take advantage of available funds for EBT/debit/credit wireless POS terminals before the opportunity runs out on September 30th.
I know this is an extremely busy season and the timing could not be worse. However, if you are a member of a market interested in starting an EBT program, 20 minutes of your time will save your market $500-$1000 (the cost of purchasing a wireless POS terminal outright). Furthermore, MFFM is here to assist with the other steps to starting and sustaining a successful EBT program.
All you need to do is fill out an application for an FNS # for your market: http://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/retailers/register.htm
Step 1: Create a username/log-in by registering at the link above.
Step 2: Fill out the application.
Step 3: Submit the application.
Step 4: Contact MFFM and Kelly O’Neal at DHHS (cc’d on this email).
*Kelly will need your market’s bank accounting and routing #s if your market plans to seek reimbursement for EBT and monthly fees through the State.
Please do not hesitate to be in touch as soon as possible with any questions — I am available by email, phone (see below) and potentially in-person. Due to the demand from interested markets, please email to set up a time to speak or meet.
