NOFA-NH’s annual Winter Conference arrives Saturday, March 2nd, in Laconia. This year’s event includes workshops on backyard grain production, mycological landscaping, and making cheese at home. Also cultivating resiliency through backyard farming, engaging children, and building new markets for new farmers. A new feature is the pre-conference intensive, with all-day workshops for farmers on Friday, March 1st.

Food is an important part of human culture and heritage and essential to our existence, yet much of what we eat comes from large systems that are increasingly challenged by environmental and economic conditions, energy constraints and health concerns. NOFA-NH and its members choose to focus on the positive – cultivating the resilience and health of New Hampshire’s local food system. In that spirit, this year’s Winter Conference theme is “Growing a Resilient Community.”

• Beginner Farmer Mixer: Friday, March 1, 6pm at Prescott Farm, Laconia, NH, with NOFA-NH Beginner Farmers and the Greenhorns.
• Friday Evening Public Keynote with Tom Wessels: 7pm, Laconia Middle School. $15.00 Adult, $5.00 Student suggested donation at the door.
• Workshops, Potluck, Book Signings & Green Market Fair: Saturday, March 2, 8am-5pm
• Keynote – Kristin Kimball: Saturday, March 1, 9:15am. Author of The Dirty Life: A Memoir of Farming, Food and Love, will talk about her love of farming and provide inspiration and thought on the topic of “Resiliency” and the future of food.
