Jim Gerritsen was voted as one of the 25 Visionaries Who Are Changing our World,” by Utne Magazine. For the last 35 years Jim has run Wood Prairie Farm in Maine growing organic seeds and organic food. Now, as president of the Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association (OSGATA), Jim is spearheading a lawsuit against corporate agriculture giant Monsanto to protect small farms fromgenetic contamination of organic seed and organic crops.
This lawsuit represents 270,000 family farmers, gardeners, and consumers who are suing to keep some food crops free of genetic modification. The first court case takes place on January 31st so he will be able to update us on this national precedent setting case. His presentation will focus on what each person needs to know to protect their health, the environment and small farmers.
