Cooking up Slow Food at Star Island, September 12–15

Cooking Up Slow Food: A Return to Simplicity
Star Island Retreat & Conference Center
Monday, September 12–Thursday, September 15, 2011

Slow food is the opposite of industrial, processed, engineered, fast food. This particular focus encourages everyone to slow down and use their senses to enjoy quality food with awareness. We’ll return to that time when small farms and gardens produced the food we ate, harvested when it was time and seasons were meaningful as they brought distinct flavors into our lives.

Join us in linking the pleasure of delicious food with a commitment to our community and the planet. We’ll create a fresh and flavorsome seasonal menu that satisfies the senses with locally available ingredients. Learn to choose food that is produced in harmony with the environment and local culture.

Whether you are an experienced home cook or are just beginning to expand your food awareness—all you need to bring is your appetite for knowledge, enjoyment and delicious food. Join Chef Patrice Gerard, PCEC, for a memorable sojourn on beautiful Star Island this September. There will be oodles of delicious locally produced ingredients to cook up our wonderful menus. You’ll get tips and techniques to increase your own skill in the kitchen and enjoy sharing meals and stories with your fellow participants. We will be joined by a local food expert who will discuss creating a more sustainable food system in your community. Patrice will answer all of your foodie questions and share favorite recipes that you’ll easily recreate for your own table. Sit by a crackling evening fire and watch a movie. Rock on the most serene front porch you will ever encounter. Read, daydream, explore this gem of an island shining right off the coast of Portsmouth, NH. Bring a friend and discover together why people who have been here come back again and again.

Fee is $195.00 for the four day conference, plus room and board. Visit the Star Island website for this conference for rates and registration information.
