Beginner Bee School: 5-Week Introductory Course

The days are getting longer, and spring is around the corner. Is this the year you’ll start keeping bees? Provide more pollinators for your crops, and reap the sweet reward of your own honey. Learn the basics at Beginner Bee School with a Master Beekeeper instructor and the ongoing support of the local York County Beekeepers Association. Pre-registration deadline: January 29, 2014.

Beginner Bee School: 5-Week Introductory Course
Instructor: Larry Peiffer, Master Beekeeper and former vice president of Maine State Beekeepers Association
Anderson Learning Center, 21 Bradeen St., Springvale, ME
Wednesdays, February 5 – March 5, 6 – 8:30 pm
Fee: $90 per person; $130 for two people sharing texts and materials

Participants in this 5-week introductory beekeeping course will learn about:

• Honey bee colony
• Constructing hives
• Spring, summer and fall management
• Honey production
• Identification and control of diseases and pests
• Wintering hives

The course fee also includes a one-year membership in the York County Beekeepers Association, and a visit to local hives later in the spring to observe and gain hands-on experience.
