Anyone Can Grow Food Workshop: How to Plant an Herb Garden

Flavorful herbs are easy to grow outside during the summer months in pots, window boxes or raised bed gardens. Under the guidance of NH Master Gardener Leslie Stevens, families can learn how to plant and nurture an herb garden on Saturday, June 21 at 10:15 am at the Children’s Museum of NH. This is a free workshop but reservations are requested to ensure that enough plant materials are available for all.
This workshop is part of the annual “Anyone Can Grow Food” program created by the Museum and sponsored by Stonyfield Farm. Children and adults will help plant an herb garden in the raised garden beds behind the museum, along the Cocheco River. Participants will be able to taste the fresh herbs and learn to identify them for harvesting later on. Everyone will get an herb seedling to take home and plant, and children can visit with a friendly small animal guest from Leslie Stevens’ farm.
In the fall, the gardening program will conclude on September 27 with a session on how to harvest ripe fruits and vegetables, and kids can dig up the potatoes that were planted in the spring. Using vegetables and herbs from the garden, families can help make salsa fresca and share other ideas for garden-fresh recipes. There is no charge to participate in this program.
