Local food fans, farmers, fishermen, gardeners, and growers of all sorts — please consider registering to participate in the first Maine Food Summit being held in Orono on Friday, December 6th! The summit is an opportunity for food producers, business owners and anyone involved with and interested in Maine’s food system to share ideas about growing Maine’s agriculture and fishery, supporting the state’s economy and improving food security:

Maine has a long and rich history of food production from fisheries and agriculture to hunting and foraging. How can the Maine food system support our state and contribute to regional food security? Engage with businesses, friends, and colleagues to discuss the future of our dynamic food system. What do you want Maine’s land and sea-scape to produce? Come and share your vision with us at the 2013 Maine Food Summit!
Tim Griffin, associate professor and director of the Agriculture, Food and Environment Program of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, and Patrick Keliher, commissioner of the Maine Department of Marine Resources, will be keynote speakers. In addition, there will be panel discussions, workshops and opportunities to meet others interested in food systems.
The cost to attend is $40, $30 students. Lunch will included. Deadline to register is Wednesday, November 27th Monday, December 2nd.
