Editor’s Note: Watch out world, this one is a firecracker! Chloe comes to us this semester with a lot of enthusiasm and a specific interest in geriatric nutrition. In addition to her work with us at markets, we are excited to task her with project of better understanding how we can support and engage residents of senior community housing facilities. We are already excited to be working with her and know she will do a wonderful job this semester!
The field of nutrition is so fascinating to me because of its tangible nature. A person can physically see what he is eating and physically see/feel the effects. We have so much control over what we decide to put into our bodies, yet we constantly choose the processed foods, the candies, and that convenient granola bar that is packed with excess added sugars. I am definitely guilty of that! Part of this is not our fault, rather, it is the food system that we currently have. What I like about nutrition is that change is obtainable. By educating people about proper nutrition, you give them the tools to make better choices and ultimately become healthier and happier!
My personal belief about food is to eat well, eat fresh, and eat local. Though I am not a sterling example of this mantra, I strive for it every single day. That is where Seacoast Eat Local comes into play. When looking for an internship, I could not believe my luck when I came across Seacoast Eat Local. Not only is it centered around eating locally and fresh, but it is also focused on giving back to the community through education, SNAP/EBT benefits, and events. I am extremely excited to be a part of this group and the amazing work they do and look forward to sharing my cooking creations, nutritional knowledge, and experiences with you!
All the best,
Chloe
