Preserve the Harvest: An Introduction to Canning

August 20 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Join Seacoast Eat Local and UNH Extension for an introductory workshop designed to help canning beginners build confidence in home food preservation. Canning is a great way to enjoy locally grown foods long after the growing season ends, reduce food waste, and make the most of your grocery budget.

Led by Sean O’Brien of UNH Extension, this workshop will cover the fundamentals of safe home canning, including:

  • The difference between water bath and pressure canning
  • Essential food safety practices and common misconceptions
  • Equipment and supplies needed to get started
  • How to identify trusted recipes and reliable canning resources

Following the educational portion of the workshop, Sean will demonstrate the process of making and canning blueberry lemon jam, giving participants the opportunity to see the equipment in action and ask questions throughout the process.

Each participant will receive a take-home resource binder filled with recipes, food safety information, canning terminology, and trusted books, websites, and educational resources to support their food preservation journey at home.

Space is limited to 16 participants, and advance registration is required. Registration is free, with a suggested donation of $15. Donations help Seacoast Eat Local continue offering educational programming that connect community members with local food, farmers, and food system skills.
