I started a new blog this week in honor of eating locally and the journey I am on to fulfill that mission. I hope people will stop by and share their tips and tricks and maybe learn something new!

Slow Food Seacoast is inviting anyone interested in eating locally to its Public Potluck & Meeting on Sunday, August 3, 2008, at 5:30 PM in Stoodley's Tavern at STrawbery Banke Museum. We're asking everyone to bring a dish to share including at least one locally grown or raised ingredient. During the meeting, we'll brainstorm ways that each of us plans to incorporate local foods during the week, and share the results on the web!

I love attending Portsmouth's Farmer's Market and trying new things or buying things I love but didn't grow in my own garden. With the amount of food I reap I would love to know how to preserve it so that I don't have to give it all away.

Let's not forget the local food people produce for themselves! Eating local also includes enjoying and sharing the fruits (and vegetables) of our own labor in backyard gardens or community plots. Not many folks tend home gardens these days, but a lot more of us could.

I plan to talk it up on my blog, as well as eat local and write about it. I'd like to challenge myself to organize the Lakes Region food producers around the event. I'll see what I can do up this way!

Check out Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) at LocalHarvest - http://www.localharvest.org/csa/, choose New Hampshire in the State drop-down list, and you will see a list of local farms participating in CSA. From their website;
"A CSA, (for Community Supported Agriculture) is a way for the food buying public to create a relationship with a farm and to receive a weekly basket of produce. By making a financial commitment to a farm, people become "members" (or "shareholders," or "subscribers") of the CSA"
