Rollinsford’s Brandmoore Farm

Spring has been a time of transition for a number of Seacoast farms, and we’re glad to receive news that Brandmoore Farm will be establishing roots in Rollinsford. As Brookford Farm settles into their new home in Canterbury, NH, Phil Brand and Becky Moore are readying the land on Sligo Road for their own venture. Immediate plans include a CSA and a farm store featuring their organic raw milk and cream, free-range eggs and pork, and organic vegetables. From Brandmoore Farm:

This spring Brandmoore Farm is beginning our first year farming on Sligo Road in Rollinsford, New Hampshire. We are leasing a scenic patch of rolling pastures and woodlands along the Salmon Falls River. It promises to be a hectic and exciting start, as we prepare the farm for the cows, chickens and pigs, begin making hay and get the garden started. We’re itching to get busy with it. Once we are up and running we will be selling organic raw milk and cream from our grass-fed cows, free-range eggs and pork, and organic vegetables. We invite you to visit the farm anytime after we open in May.

The warm weather has us thinking spring (even more than usual) and that means the great smell of potting soil! We uncovered trays and put in our leeks (6,000 seeds in all), onions and shallots, some early flowers, parsley and are getting ready for more seeding; it’s all part of the effort gearing up for an exciting growing season–the first at our new farm in Rollinsford, NH.

As we prepare for the garden we are also getting the other pieces of the farm in order in anticipation of our lease beginning next month. Our hens are 3 months old and almost ready to go out on pasture and begin laying eggs. We have been “cow shopping,” visiting organic farms across New England looking for the right cows to start our herd. It is a hectic and exciting time and we are chomping at the bit to make the transition to the farm—then the fun really begins.

We also have spaces available in our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Members purchase a “share” of the vegetable harvest at the beginning of the season, and in exchange receive a variety of seasonal, fresh vegetables each week. Our CSA spans 20 weeks beginning in mid-June, and is designed for a small family. The cost is $400. We are also including a $25 gift certificate to our farm store with each CSA purchase.

We also want to acknowledge Luke and Caterina Mahoney of Brookford Farm. For the past five years they have farmed the land along Sligo Road, and done much to revitalize the farm as they have grown their business. We wish them continued success at their new home in Canterbury, NH.

Cheers and happy growing,
Phil and Becky
