The Winter Garden Harvest at the White House

On March 10, 2010, the winter garden was harvested at the White House! Although it was a very snowy winter in D.C., everyone on the kitchen staff was happily surprised with how well their garden overwintered under hoop houses. They posted on their blog about the harvest last week, http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/03/27/harvesting-winter-garden. There is also a nice little video of the hoop houses through the winter and the culminating harvest, http://www.whitehouse.gov/photos-and-video/video/harvesting-winter-garden.

All-in-all, it is a great example of how we can extend our ability to eat locally with simple high tunnels!
